We visited this restaurant around 10 pm after seeing a movie at a nearby cinema. The idlies were served hot and fast with 4 varieties of chutney and hot sambar. Then we ordered Ghee Roast and Onion Utthappam. . Both were too delicious. The prices are reasonable.

Must visit place in Chennai

This historic chain of Idli shops is a Chennai landmark and a must-visit for any foodie, especially from abroad. We come here every time we visit Chennai. Start with the signature soft, fluffy and warm Idles - giving you 5...then vadai, crisp and fresh, and finish your meal with rava dosai or ghee dosai. Invest additionally in Podi oil, which is a blend of spices and sesame oil. It's all finger food. After washing your fingers, enjoy hot filter coffee and sweet pongal for dessert. The place is simple, clean and air conditioned. The service is fast and the staff always make sure to refill the sambar or chutney.Further

The best authentic South Indian food.

Excellent South Indian food available here. A little pricey, but the taste makes it worth it. The hot idli from the Murugan Idli shop is worth trying. The quality of the appetizer can be improved! South Indian snacks are also on offer.

murugan idli

murugan idli shop is an excellent idli restaurant that offers a wide range of other south indian snacks. Another of its hallmarks is the jigarthanda dessert

Good for South Indian food, can be hard to find during the day. It is usually full in the afternoon and evening.

Idlis could be better and don't ask for podi

I visited this branch after 2 years break. Clean, good service. Unlike last time, the vadai were fresh and good. However, their trademark idli could be improved. Also lots of chutney, not really necessary, just a good traditional coconut chutney would do. Also, they keep...advertising their "podi" for which there is an additional charge. Not great though. Good place for a quick breakfast, although it will be a while before I go back. It's times like this that I really miss Drive in Woodlands.Further

They have a nice place to sit. However, the food is average; except sakre pongal (sweet pongal) this is the best. She took a pack - idle, vadai and sambar were cold. Dosai was average. When I called and complained instead of apologizing. . .rudely replied that this is how they serve food for package orders. He would rather Sudha, gomathi mess, mathsya, welcome hotel, sarvanna bhavan than this place (in pecking order).Further

decent quality food

This idli shop is neat and clean and the waiters are also polite. As usual, there is a variety of chutney here. The food is of excellent quality and hygienically prepared. Very spacious with good seats, even on Sunday there is no wait. The taste is simply South Indian. . .but the only thing best here and i think its the best in chennai is the sweet pongal, its just beautiful! !
