AI Fantasy Expert Mock Draft: Justin Jefferson Takes 1st Place (2023)

The summer months are almost here, so it's time to start making some "fancy" fun! In the first of our series of test sketches, wsports illustrated(with some of our industry friends) came together for a 12-team, 13-round mockup. We use a basic full point for all admissions (PPR) scoring system. The starting lineup includes a quarterback, two running backs, two wide receivers, a tight end and a flexible (RB/WR/TE). There were no kickers or defensive units/special teams in the design.

As you'll see in matchups, many coaches placed a lot more emphasis on wide receiver due to the PPR format, not to mention the trend where this position was more important in earlier rounds. Whatever your strategy is this season, this model can give you an idea of what your squad could look like based on the different building philosophies our trainers use.

Below is a breakdown of his team's 12 teams, including each player's position in the draft and notes on their structure. Who had the best taunt and who could miss in certain positions. Read on and find out!

(Note: You can see all the preliminary results in the screenshot below.)

AI Fantasy Expert Mock Draft: Justin Jefferson Takes 1st Place (1)

1. Ryan Hallam, Sports Outstanding Group

1.1. Justin Jefferson, WR, vikingos

2.24. Najee Harris, RB, Acereros

3.25. Travis Etienne, RB, Jaguary

4.48. Drake London, WR, Falcons

5.49. George Kittle, TE, 49ers

6.72. Christian Watson, WR, Empacadores

7.73. Isiah Pacheco, RB, Chiefs

8.96. Kirk Cousins, quarterback, The Vikings

9,97. Treylon Burks, WR, Tytani

10,120. Roschon Johnson, RB, Osos

11.121. Darnell Mooney, WR, Osos

12,144. Juwan Johnson TE, The Saints

13,145. Wan'Dale Robinson, WR, Giants

Comments:Jefferson was the first pick in the draft, which was the norm for most offseason pranksters. Hallam went with Harris and Etienne with two more picks, but then moved to receivers with three more, including sophomores London and Watson. Both will perform as the best receivers on their teams. Hallam waited for the quarterback until the eighth inning and got Cousins, who was the 12th pick. I liked the 9th round pick of Burks because he's a unique receiver in Tennessee with fantastic charm. Johnson, a rookie returning from Texas, passed on to his new Bears teammate D'Onta Foreman.

2. Dave Seperson, Sports Illustrated

1.2. Christian McCaffrey, RB, 49ers

2.23. Mark Andrews, TE, Ravens

3.26. Dalvin Cook, R.B., The Vikings

4.47. DJ Moore, WR, Osos

5.50. Mike Evans, WR, Bucaneros

6.71. Dameon Pierce, RB, Texanos

7.74. Aaron Rodgers, quarterback, Jets

8.95. JuJu Smith-Schuster, WR, Patriots

9,98. Odell Beckham Jr., WR, Cuervos

10,119. Anthony Richardson, field marshal, colts

11.122. Elias Mitchell, RB, 49ers

12143. Israel Press, RB, Jets

13.146. Rashee Rice, WR, Jeffes

Comments:Seperson began his build with McCaffrey, who is the consensus leader in fantasy football. His next two picks, Andrews and Cooks, were picked over his current ADP. Cook, who may not even be in Minnesota this season, was selected a few rounds later in the majors. While waiting to pick his first wide receiver for the fourth inning, Seperson picked Moore, Evans and Smith-Schuster as his top picks. Hoping to bounce back from the season, he went with OBJ and Rodgers (formerly Cousins and Deshaun Watson). Seperson also landed Richardson, who could be a candidate for a rookie breakthrough in Indianapolis.

3. Craig Ellenport, Sports Illustrated

1.3. Austin Ekeler, RB, Chargers

2.22. Garrett Wilson, WR, Jets

3.27. Deebo Samuel, WR, 49ers

4.46. Javonte Williams, RB, Broncos

5.51. Trevor Lawrence, quarterback, Jaguar

6.70. Jerry Jeudy, WR, Broncos

7.75. Jamaal Williams, WR, Los Santos

8.94. Damien Harris, RB, zero

9,99. Jameson Williams, WR, Carretera

10,118. Tua Tagovailoa, field marshal, Delfiny

11.123. Dalton Kincaid, TE, Rachunki

12.142. Elijah Moore, WR, Marrones

13,147. Sam LaPorta, TE, Lions

Comments:Ellenport broke ground with Ekeler, which will beback with chargersnext season. He followed this up with a couple of video outings on Wilson and Samuel, then brought back his No. 2 pick from Williams (the first of three "J. Williams" picks). Javonte's ADP in the top baseball leagues is much lower as questions remain about his return from his knee injury, making him a risk-reward pick. Ellenport chooses Lawrence over Justin Herbert, Lamar Jackson, and Justin Fields. Jamaal Williams could be a decent deal if he suspends Alvin Kamara. Ellenport also made a bold move by taking two rookie tight ends in Kincaid and LaPorta.

AI Fantasy Expert Mock Draft: Justin Jefferson Takes 1st Place (2)

4. Bob Harris, football fans

1.4. Cooper Kupp, WR, Rams

2.21. Josh Jacobs, RB, Raiders

3.28. DK Metcalf, WR, Seahawks

4.45. Chris Olave, WR, Los santos

5.52. Darren Waller, TE, Gigantes

6.69. James Conner RB, Cardenales

7.76. Miles Sanders, RB, Pantry

8.93. Deshaun Watson, field marshal, Browns

9.100. Marquise Brown, WR, Cardenales

10.117. Michael Thomas, WR, Los santos

11,124. Daniel Jones, QB, Giants

12.141. Chigoziem Okonkwo, TE, Titanes

13.148. Kendre Miller, RB, Los Santos

Comments:Crafty veteran Harris put together a balanced team starting at the top with Kupp and Jacobs. His next three picks were receivers in Metcalf, Olave and Waller, but he still landed a decent No. 2 on Conner in round 6. Adding to his depth, Harris caught Sanders in round 7. This could be a steal since Sanders plays the mid 50s in the best soccer leagues. He could wait for a quarterback and still have Watson backed by Jones in that lineup. Harris also took a chance on Thomas in round 10, and I like Okonkwo late.

5. John Pluym, Sports Illustrated

1.5. Ja'Marr Chase, WR, Bengalíes

2.20. Nick Chubb, RB, Marrones

3.29. Tony Pollard, RB, Kowboje

4.44. Mike Williams, WR, Cargadores

5.53. Kyle Pitts, TE, Falcons

6.68. That's Prescott, QB, Cowboy

7.77. David Montgomery, RB, Leones

8.92. Allen Lazard, WR, Jets

9.101. Jordan Addison, WR, Vikingos

10.116. Adam Thielen, WR, Pantry

11.125. Geno Smith, quarterback, Seahawks

12,140. CJ Stroud, quarterback, Texans

13.149. Irv Smith Jr., TE, Bengalczycy

Comments:Pluym got off to a smart start with Chase being picked second in some PPR formats. He then got a strong defensive duo in Chubb and Pollard. However, Williams was able to reach coverage in round 4, as receivers like Olave and Calvin Ridley were still available. However, Montgomery could be a good value in round 7 and Addison was the first rookie to come off the board. As a Vikings fan, Pluym showed off his purple and yellow colors with Addison and former Vikes Thielen and Smith Jr. Also landing was Geno Smith, who still doesn't get the respect he deserves after finishing QB5 last year.

6. Doug Vásquez, Sports Illustrated

1.6. Jonathan Taylor, RB, Potros

2.19. Tee Higgins, WR, Bengalíes

3.30. Keenan Allen, WR, Chargers

4.43. Joe Burrow, field marshal, Bengali

5.54. D'Andre Swift, RB, Eagles

6.67. Evan Engram, TE, Jaguar

7.78. AJ Dillon, RB, Packers

8.91. Courtland Sutton, WR, Broncos

9.102. Jaxon Smith-Njigba, WR, Seahawks

10.115. Cordarrelle Patterson, RB, Falcons

11.126. Jared Goff, quarterback, Lions

12.139. Cazador Renfrow, WR, Raiders

13,150. Cole Kmet, TE, Bears

Comments:Vasquez began his lineup with last year's top pick Taylor, followed by two receivers in Higgins and Allen. He then made a nice stack with Burrow, which of course often stacks with Higgins. Waiting until the fifth round for his second comeback, Vasquez took a chance on Swift. Maybe he'd be better off in Philly withoutThe Curse of Barry Sandershangs over his head. (Boy, boy. Well, sort of.) His back could be a problem, as he'll need Dillon to be his No. 3 pick. I like Sutton's pick at this point in the draft, and Smith-Njigba was worth watching. in round 9

7. Lindsay Rhodes, Sirius XM

1.7. Colina Tyreek, WR, Delfiny

2.18. Devonta Smith, WR, Eagles

3.31. Patrick Mahomes, quarterback, chiefs

4.42. TJ Hockenson, TE, The Vikings

5.55. Jahmyr Gibbs, RB, Leones

6.66. Diontae Johnson, WR, Steelers

7,79. Rachaad White, RB, Bucaneros

8.90. Alexander Mattison, RB, Vikingos

9.103. Jahan Dotson, WR, Commanders

10.114. Zach Charbonnet, RB, Seahawks

11.127. Donovan Peoples-Jones, WR, Browns

12,138. Zach Ertz TE, Cardinals

13.151. Leonard Fournette, RB, field agent

Comments:Rhodes, who texted me cursing me for taking "his players" more than once, started his build with a pair of brick receivers at Hill and Smith. He followed this up with Mahomes and then caught Hockenson in round 4. That's right, Rhodes was without a back until round five where he caught Gibbs. That's how a lot of people are going to start building this season, and the fact that he still has Gibbs and White shows that it can work. Both have preseason advantage. Mattison could also be a steal if the Vikings part ways with Cook (rumor has it). I also like Dotson, who had seven touchdowns as a rookie.

8. Michael Fabiano, Sports Illustrated

1.8. Bijan Robinson, RB, Falcons

2.17. Amon-Ra St. Brown, WR, Leones

3.32. DeAndre Hopkins, WR, Cardenales

4.41. Rhamondre Stevenson, R.B., The Patriots

5.56. Calvin Ridley, WR, Jaguary

6.65. Justin Fields, field mariscal, osos

7.80. Brandon Aiyuk, WR, 49ers

8.89. James Cook, RB, Rachunki

9.104. Pat Freiermuth, TE, Steelers

10.113. Devon Achane, RB, Delfiny

11.128. Jerick McKinnon, R.B., Jefes

12.137. Jakobi Meyers, WR, Raiders

13.152. Greg Dulcich, TE, Broncos

Comments:I started my build with Robinson, who is locked in as a first-rounder in most drills and top ball leagues. I followed this up with two videoouts, St. Brown and Hopkins, and still he got Stevenson in round 4. If I can get off to a start like this in every draft, sign me up! Catching Ridley as WR3 was a surprise, but I'll take it. I also managed to land Fields in round 6 and Aiyuk in round 7. Both could be better than their respective draft positions. I also risked a couple of reverse defenders on Cook and Achane, and McKinnon could be stealthy. The weakest part of the team is the tight end, but other than that I like the end result.

9. Bill Enright, Sports Illustrated

1.9. Stefon Diggs, WR, facturas

2.16. Jaylen Waddle, WR, Delfiny

3.33. Amari Cooper, WR, Browns

4.40. Josh Allen, quarterback, scratches

5.57. Alvin Kamara, RB, Los Santos

6.64. Cam Akers, RB, Rams

7.81. Khalil Herbert, RB, Osos

8.88. Kadarius Toney, WR, Jefes

9105. Rashad Penny, RB, Eagles

10.112. Samaje Perine, RB, Broncos

11,129. David Njoku, TE, Browns

12.136. Josh Downs, WR, Potros

13.153. Michael Gallup, WR, Kowboje

Comments:Enright went wild at wide receiver, grabbing Diggs, Waddle and Cooper with the first three picks. It's a solid trio. He then caught Allen to deal with Diggs in round 4. Enright didn't back down until round 5, and he was risky on Kamara. It can be stealing, but it can also be a nightmare if the NFL bans it for a period of time. Like most managers who come into the wide field early, Enright took down several top running backs in the middle innings, including Akers, Herbert, Penny and Perine. Njoku can be a pain in the ass at tight ends, but he's not a bad option considering he went in the 11th round.

10. Kyle Wood, Sports Illustrated

1.10. Travis Kelce, TE, Chiefs

2.15. Derrick Henry, RB, Tytani

3.34. Jalen Hurts, QB, Eagles

4.39. Aaron Jones, RB, Packers

5.58. Tyler Lockett, WR, Seahawks

6.63. Chris Godwin, WR, Bucaneros

7,82. Christian Kirk, WR, Jaguary

8.87. Brandin Cooks, WR, Kowboje

9,106. Antonio Gibson, RB, Commanders

10.111. Rashod Bateman, WR, Ravens

11130. D'Onta Foreman, R.B., Bears

12,135. Russell Wilson, field marshal, Broncos

13,154. Mike Gesicki, TE, The Patriots

Comments:Wood caught Kelce in round 1, which will be the norm in most drafts. In fact, Kelce was in the top five in some top ball formats. He also landed Henry, who comes with some risks due to his age and workload, but is still a solid pick in round 2. Hurts is a solid pick in round three and Jones has good value in round four. However, the depth of him in the back room behind Henry and Jones could be a problem. Because he was waiting for wide receivers, Wood went with four straight in Lockett, Godwin, Kirk and Cooks. I don't love Lockett as WR1, but if Godwin is better than anticipated, he could be a good audience fantasy.

11. Jen Piacenti, Sports Illustrated

1.11. Cee Dee Cordero, WR, Kowboje

2.14. Davante Adams, WR, Raiders

3.35. Joe Mixon, RB, Bengali

4.38. Breece Hall, RB, Jets

5.59. Justin Herbert, QB, Chargers

6.62. JK Dobbins, RB, Ravens

7.83. Michael Pittman Jr., WR, Foals

8.86. Dalton Schultz, TE, Texans

9,107. Gabe Davis, WR, Rachunki

10,110. Quentin Johnston, WR, Chargers

11.131. Ezekiel Elliott, RB, free agent

12,134. Kareem Hunt, RB, free agent

13.155. Kyler Murray, QB, Cardenales

Comments:Piacenti got off to a good start in the draft, landing a pair of spikes on Lamb and Adams. He could also steal Mixon in round 3, and catching Hall in round 4 could be a big deal. Of course, it all depends on your recovery from the ACL repair. He also got Herbert ahead of Lamar Jackson and Fields at quarterback. Catching Dobbins as the No. 3 defenseman was a good move, and Pittman Jr. should make for a decent third videoout. Piacenti also took Johnston's fourth rookie and completed his build with a pair of free-agent defensemen in the form of Elliott and Hunt. Murray can also be a 13 round steal.

12. Gilberto Manzano, Sports Illustrated

1.12. Saquon Barkley, RB, Gigantes

2.13. AJ Brown, WR, Águilas

3.36. Kenneth Walker, RB, Seahawks

4.37. Terry McLaurin, WR, Comandantes

5.60. Lamar Jackson, QB, Ravens

6.61. Dallas Goedert, TE, Eagles

7,84. George Pickens, WR, Steelers

8.85. Brian Robinson Jr., RB, Commanders

9.108. Zay Jones, WR, Jaguary

10.109. Zay Flowers, WR, Cuervos

11.132. Skyy Moore, WR, jefes

12.133. Tyler Allgeier, RB, Halcones

13.156. Michael Mayer, TE, Raiders

Comments:Barkley held until the last pick in the first round, so it could be an opportunity for Manzano. The build was balanced, grabbing two defenders, two receivers, a quarterback and a tight end in the first six rounds, including Walker as RB2. He likes McLaurin, who reached round 4 ahead of Olave, Ridley and London. I loved getting Goedert at the end of round 6, and it was worth risking Pickens in round 7. Manzano also dominated the market on "Zays," taking both Flowers and Jones with back-to-back picks. Grabbing the best players in the second half of the test, he also chose Robinson and Moore.
